Even though it’s a few days late, I couldn’t help myself but to make a post about Wednesday’s night market.
During summer, the NEWaukee night market brings Milwaukee, WI together with amusing games, a pleasant atmosphere, food from local restaurants and so much more. But catch it while you can, because there are only four of these magical events every summer.
I was lucky enough to have the day off from work on September 13th for the last night market of the year.
Heavenly smells and a crowd of people welcomed me as I approached 2nd street.
After meeting up with a friend who (thankfully) informed me that there was a booth selling lobster mac n’ cheese, I knew my next move.
I couldn’t resist pairing it with a glass (or rather a plastic cup) of sauvignon blanc. I don’t know anything about wine pairing; but it was pretty damn good.
Food and drink in tow, I was ready to explore the night market even more. And I liked what I found.
Like this life-size chess game. There was also a game of checkers set up next to it. Add to that list of activities a dance floor, a DJ, a bean bag toss and a booth with campfires set up and free supplies to roast s’mores. If you were bored at the night market, you did it VERY wrong.
Then I moved on to some of the vendors that had tents set up.
This jewelry table was particularly captivating.
And this soy candle vendor was equally as amazing. My only regret is that I didn’t manage to get either of these vendors’ names. If one of those tents was yours, email me and let me know.
Despite having the day off, I wasn’t fortunate enough to avoid working the next day at 6AM. Because of that, I concluded my night with another loop of the market before I decided to head home to prepare for my day ahead. Nonetheless, I was inspired by my findings.
After my time at the night market, I decided to do some research on the organization that organized such an impressive event. That organization, “NEWaukee”, peaked my curiosity as much as the night market did.
The organization was started in 2009 by a group of friends that wanted to put together social events. According to their website,
“… the founders challenged each original member with the task of bringing ten of their friends to the first NEWaukee event. From that point, the group expanded rapidly as Milwaukee whippersnappers found an unconventional way to travel throughout the city, break out of their comfort zones and meet other like-minded people.”
For obvious reasons, I fell in love with the idea. I researched more and found out that the group throws events like this throughout the year ranging from business-oriented networking events to community socials. I am now determined to make it to another NEWaukee event; so stay tuned for a future post.
A charming event and a new opportunity…it was a great night.
Overall, the NEWaukee night market was nothing short of amazing. You need to make an effort to get to one of the four events next summer if you’re in the area. Trust me, it’s worth it.
And that’s all for now. Don’t forget to give me a follow to stay up to date.
